Who’s Stem Cell Mexico?

Stem Cell Mexico is the regenerative medicine brand of Grupo MedicalMex, a cross-border medical group based in Tijuana, Baja California, that serves patients from the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Free Consultation

Through Stem Cell Mexico, the group offers treatments with allogeneic mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) from Wharton's jelly of the umbilical cord for joint and spine problems, neurological conditions, cardiovascular, metabolic and kidney conditions, sexual health, hair and healthy aging. Treatments are performed at Russald Medical, the group's clinic in the medical tower of Torres Plaza Agua Caliente in Tijuana, by licensed physicians supported by nurses and dedicated patient advisors. The cells are prepared by a COFEPRIS-licensed laboratory under Good Manufacturing Practice standards. Our approach is simple: an honest medical evaluation, a single well-documented cell type, clear written plans and prices, careful procedures with medical monitoring, and follow-up after you return home.

This guide explains who we are, how the group is organized, how we work and what makes our approach different.

Grupo MedicalMex and its brands

Grupo MedicalMex brings together several specialized medical brands in Tijuana:

  • Stem Cell Mexico: regenerative medicine with Wharton's jelly MSCs, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and exosomes.
  • Russald Medical: the group's clinic, where stem cell treatments are performed, along with other specialties such as orthopedics, aesthetics and men's health.
  • TJ Hair System (opens in a new tab): hair restoration, including hair transplantation.

Working as a group allows patients to combine services when appropriate, such as a regenerative scalp treatment with a hair transplant, or a joint treatment with an orthopedic evaluation, with one coordination team.

What we offer

Treatment plans are individualized after a medical evaluation. The most common areas are:

  • Joints and spine: knee, hip, shoulder, ankle, elbow, wrist and multiple joints; osteoarthritis and cartilage degeneration; degenerative disc disease; sports injuries.
  • Neurological conditions: stroke recovery, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury and cerebral palsy.
  • Cardiovascular, metabolic and kidney conditions: heart failure, coronary and peripheral artery disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and chronic kidney disease.
  • Other goals: rheumatoid arthritis, COPD, wound care, hearing loss, macular degeneration, healthy aging, fatigue, menopause and postpartum support, erectile dysfunction and hair.

Treatment plans range from about $1,800 to $9,500 USD, depending on the condition.

Our cells

We use one cell type: allogeneic MSCs from the Wharton's jelly of donated umbilical cords, obtained after healthy, full-term births with the mother's informed consent and donor screening. The cells come from the cord tissue, not from cord blood. We do not use the patient's own cells, such as fat or bone marrow, and we do not use amniotic products. When a plan includes exosomes, they are derived from umbilical cord MSCs. The cells are prepared by a COFEPRIS-licensed laboratory under Good Manufacturing Practice standards, with quality and safety testing before release.

How we work

1. Honest evaluation

Every patient starts with a medical questionnaire and a complimentary phone or video consultation with the doctor. If treatment is unlikely to help, or if the risks outweigh the expected benefits, we say so.

2. Clear written plans

Each plan lists the number of cells, the route of application, the nights at our facilities, what is included and the total price. Only what is listed is included.

3. Careful procedures

Joint and spine applications are performed with ultrasound or fluoroscopy guidance, IV infusions are monitored, and patients stay overnight at our facilities with nursing and medical care.

4. Complete logistics

Transportation from the San Diego airport area is included in most plans, and a dedicated patient advisor coordinates your visit from the first message to the last follow-up call.

5. Follow-up

After treatment, our team stays in contact through calls and messages, and the doctor reviews your progress.

Our team

  • Licensed physicians who evaluate patients, perform procedures and supervise care.
  • Physicians trained in image-guided procedures for joints, the spine and intrathecal applications.
  • A stem cell specialist who helps define each protocol.
  • A nursing team for procedures and overnight care.
  • Patient advisors who coordinate every step.
  • Drivers who accompany patients across the border in both directions.

The team communicates in English and Spanish, and written plans, instructions and medical reports are provided in the language you prefer.

Where we are

Russald Medical is located on the second floor (suite CM3) of the medical tower in Torres Plaza Agua Caliente, Tijuana, about 30 minutes from the San Diego border crossings. A typical visit takes two to three days: arrival and evaluation, treatment with a night at our facilities, and discharge.

What we do not do

Being clear about what we do not offer is part of how we work:

  • We do not use the patient's own cells, such as fat or bone marrow, or amniotic products.
  • We do not inject cells into the eye. Macular degeneration protocols use IV infusion only.
  • We do not perform hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, the intensive hospital procedure used for blood cancers and some cases of multiple sclerosis.
  • We do not promise cures or report success percentages without published data.
  • We do not treat patients with active cancer or cancer within the past five years, during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or with active infections.

Why a medical group matters for patients

Being part of a medical group means shared coordination, transportation and patient support across specialties. Patients who need more than one service, for example an orthopedic evaluation and a regenerative treatment, or a hair transplant and a scalp protocol, can plan them together with one advisor and one written plan, saving travel and time.

Regulation

In Mexico, establishments that handle cell therapies operate under sanitary licenses from COFEPRIS, the federal health regulator. An overview by the International Society for Cell and Gene Therapy (ISCT) describes the Mexican regulatory framework for cell therapies. The International Society for Stem Cell Research (ISSCR) encourages patients to ask about licenses, cell sources and safety monitoring, and we welcome those questions.

What the evidence supports

The strongest evidence for MSC treatment is in knee osteoarthritis, where a 2024 meta-analysis of randomized trials found greater pain reduction than hyaluronic acid at 12 months, and in degenerative disc disease, where a 2026 meta-analysis found greater pain reduction than control treatments. A 2026 meta-analysis of IV umbilical-cord-derived MSCs found a favorable safety profile. We explain to each patient what the evidence shows for their specific condition.

Our commitments to patients

  • No guarantees of cure, and honest information about realistic results.
  • No hidden charges: only what is listed in your written plan is included in the price.
  • One cell type, consistently described.
  • Medical monitoring during and after treatment.
  • Privacy, with confidential handling of your information and medical records.
  • Coordination with your own doctors, with your permission.
